Waiting On Wednesday (#4)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, and it's a weekly meme all about the books that are coming out soon that we really can't wait to read.

This is my WoW!  It's a little long...  Ok, a lot long.  But all these books look amazing!  And they're all published early March-time.

Firelight
Series: Firelight, Book One
By: Sophie Jordan
Published: 3rd March 2011
Found: On I Want to Read That's Blog

Synopsis From Goodreads:
A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.
I've seen this everywhere, and it looks absolutely amazing!  Plus, loving the cover - especially the scales.

The Gift

Synopsis From Goodreads:

But the One has other plans in store for them: He needs Wisty, for she is "The One Who Has the Gift." While trying to figure out what that means, Whit and Wisty's suspenseful adventures through Overworld and Shadowland lead to a jaw-dropping climax and conclusion: the highly-anticipated fulfillment of the heart-pounding opening prologue of book one...The Execution of the Allgoods.
Ok, I admit I haven't actually read the first in this series, but I really, really, really want to!  Plus loving the covers, especially the blue one!

Across the Universe
Series: Across the Universe, Book One
By: Beth Revis
Published: 3rd March 2011

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.
So want this one!  Everybody seems to have a copy, and I really, really want to read it.  But, it's out tomorrow, and I'm going to buy it ASAP!

Demon Glass (UK)              Raising Demons (US)
Series: Hex Halls, Book Two
By: Rachel Hawkins
Published: 3rd March 2011
Found: On I Want To Read That's Blog

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?
Hex Hall is very high up on my TBR pile, and I can't wait for this one to come out!  Not sure which cover I like best though...

Burning Secrets
By: Clare Chambers
Published: 3rd March 2011
Found: On Amazon

Synopsis From Goodreads:
An intense and thrilling teen mystery set on a tranquil island where all seems perfect! Daniel has dark secrets and a troubled past. So when his family move to the island of Wragge, a gentle backwater where local life remains undisturbed he feels he's escaped. But outsiders aren't always welcome and the more Daniel tries to conceal, the more he reveals about sinister goings on. Does this picture perfect community have something even greater to hide? An explosive thriller that tingles with brooding menace and ignites as the clues fall into place!
This looks amazing!  'The more you hide, the more you reveal...' Well: love it!  Spooky but brilliant.

Run Rabbit Run
By: Barbara Mitchelhill
Published: 4th March 2011
Found: On Amazon

Synopsis From Fantastic Fiction:
Lizzie is lucky. Her dad refuses to fight in the war unlike the other dads in her street. 'I won't kill anyone,' he says.'War is wrong.' But she knows that lots of people don't agree with him and when Dad is threatened with prison, he takes Lizzie and her little brother, Freddie, on a long and adventurous journey hiding from the authorities. Even when they are separated and all seems lost, Lizzie's special star in the night sky gives her hope that one day her family will be together again.
This looks brilliant, sweet, sad and full of hope.  And I really love this cover and the way the red letters stand out against all the blacks and whites.

Wood Angel
By: Erin Bow
Published: 7th March 2011
Found: On Amazon

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Plain Kate lives in a time afraid of magic.
She has a gift for carving ‘lucky’ wooden-charms. Known as Witch-Blade, her unusual gift attracts dangerous attention in a place where witches are burned. When her village falls on bad times, suspicion falls on Kate. Scared for her life, she seeks the help of a mysterious stranger.
In exchange for her shadow, the stranger will assist her, but Kate becomes part of a terrifying plan, darker than she ever dreamed.
First published in the USA as Plain Kate, this is the heartfelt story of an orphan ‘witch-child’ and her cat, caught in a time afraid of magic.
This looks brilliant.  And, I love the cover: it's gorgeous!  Witch children, cats, magic-fearing world... it has everything.  I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Well, that's what's on my unbelievably long Waiting List.  What are you guys waiting for?
