MY BOOK BOYFRIENDS. aka. The Coolest Guys In Fiction Land.
It is a truth widely acknowledged that a girl in possession of good books must be in want of a book boyfriend. Everyone knows it. I remember being asked by a girl I knew, who didn't read books, if I had a book boyfriend. She did say it in a sarcastic way...but I chose to ignore that part...and promptly reeled off a list - I don't think she was very impressed. BUT, the point of it all: It is no big feat if someone knows you are in love with a fictional guy. Although let me tell you, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACTUALLY DATE THEM. Seriously guys. This is the truest statement ever:

Hello! I am so excited to be taking part in Megan’s Fortnight of Guests, I’ve loved the previous events that Megan has compiled on The Book Addicted Girl so I am super honoured to be taking a part in this year’s event. My name is Hollie, and I blog at Music, Books and Tea. I’ve been blogging for nearly two years now (crazy how time flies!) and it’s safe to say that I’ve loved every single minute of it. Today I thought I’d share with you a few of the YA books that I’m so happy that I took a risk on and read.
Books I’m Glad I Took the Plunge With and Read
1) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer I know, I know! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Twilight Saga, because these were the first Young Adult books I’d read in a long while, and really gave me a taste for YA. If it wasn’t for these books, I wouldn’t have bothered with YA, which means that I probably wouldn’t have my book blog. So I actually have a lot to thank these books for, and I think there’s probably a lot of other bloggers who feel the same way as I do.
2) Looking for Alaska by John Green Oh my, where to begin? This is the book that started my love for John Green, and also introduced me to a world of books and authors who I now love. I was sceptical to read this at first, as I didn’t really understand the appeal of reading a book about a boy who was going to fall in love with a girl he couldn’t have, but this book was just so much more than that, and I loved it for it.
3) Divergent by Veronica Roth Okay, it was a given that I would read this book, but I was 99% sure I wasn’t going to enjoy it. And how wrong was I?! This book quickly shot high up the list and earned itself a place in my favourites, and quite rightly so. When I read it, I wasn’t entirely sold on the idea of dystopian books, but thanks to this book, I’ve read a ton of them, and it’s easily one of my favourite (if not my actual favourite) YA genres. So yeah, if you haven’t read Divergent yet, I highly recommend it because it’s awesome.
4) Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo What isn’t there to love about this book?? Shadow and Bone is amazing, it contains literally everything that makes a book awesome. There’s magic. There’s Grisha. There’s lots of romance. (The Darkling!!) Shadow and Bone was nothing short of incredible, and again, if you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for? Get your hands on a copy, read it, and fall in love with The Darkling.
5) Finding Sky by Joss Stirling When I first read the synopsis of Finding Sky, I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it, so I just kind of put it towards the back of my mind and forgot about it for a little while. Then I took a chance on it at the end of last year, and I am so happy that I decided to do so! I was introduced to a totally different type of paranormal book, full to the brim of action and a group of brothers called the Benedicts…(need I say any more?!)
So these are just five YA books that I’m glad I took a chance on and read, and I definitely recommend checking them out yourself if you haven’t already done so!

I'll start with a trip: I was lucky enough to go to the brilliant HotKey-Templar Blogger's Brunch a little while back. I got to meet up with loads of amazing bloggers, as well as some of the authors, and also got to find out about all the awesome new books the two publishers are bringing out.
I won't go on and on about them all, cause they both have loads coming out - squee!! - but I'll tell you about a few of my favourites (all links lead to Goodreads' Page).
Ok, I like literally meant every single book.... Let's see if I can't do any better in the HotKey section...
The book I am most excited about is easy: Vortex by S.J. Kincaid, the second in the totally kick-butt Insignia series. Why must July be so far away?!?! My second fave is also not out for a while - but it looks so freaking good that I'm willing to go mad until May to wait to read it. It is called Transparent and is by Natalie Whipple and is described as X-Men meets Sopranos and I could not be more freaking excited for it! Squee! As for all the others, well, there is literally something for everyone. History lover? Try The Quietness by Alison Rattle - historical, action-packed, strong social and female right themes. Like historicals with paranormal twists - check out The Beautiful and the Cursed by Page Morgan- gothic romance, 19th century France, plus gargoyles - or The Ghost Bride by Yangze Choo - a sinister, suspenseful ghost-story revolving around the old Malaysian tradition of marrying the dead. How bout just plain old paranomals? Well, look no further than Death & Co by DJ McClane - an epic fantasy with strong modern themes and a boy with a destiny to take dead to the afterlife who just wants to be normal and fall in love. How about contemps? Well, there's a whole bunch for you guys: Red Ink by Julie Mayhew - the things we tell our children and ourselves to survive, an emotional crossover about the stages of grief. Or Friday Brown by Vikkie Wakefield - Australian author, young people on the edge of society, very thought provoking. Or there's the semi autobiography by Dawn O'Porter - Paper Aeroplances - about growing up in Guernsey, poignant, funny and sad. Are you a fan of the just plain wacky? Well, then, The Savages by Matt Whyman is definitely for you - think Addams Family crossed with Sopranos, a black comedy about a family with very different eating habits...
And, dammit, I did it again!! I am no good at controlling myself! Oh well. Onwards and upwards to our next topic:

Now, I'm sure all VA fans have heard by now, but there the official Vampire Academy movie is FINALLY underway and we have our Rose, Lissa and Dimitri!! It also has a brand spanking new name too: Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. And our leading peeps? Well, Rose is Zoey Deutch (Ringer), Lissa is Lucy Fry (she's Australian and is in a spin-off series of H2O) and Dimitri is Danila Kozlovskiy (he's actually Russian!). I think Rose is perfect and I think it's really cool there's a Russian guy as Dimka and while I'm not 100% about Lissa, I'm sure she wil be brilliant. I'm just so excited we finally have people - it's finally underway!! Excuse me while I go do crazy dancing round my whole freaking house!!!

Another first for me: I’ve at
last ridden the subway without one of my parents there.
Maddy, it turns out, is a
serious rare record junkie and likes to shop for vinyl. As in LP records. Like
our parents used to play back before, when the world was new (How can someone
who still sleeps with a teddy bear have such a seriously hipster hobby?) We
don’t even have a turntable here, but that doesn’t matter to her: She wants
“the 180-gram vinyl of the new Jack White” and there is nothing that will stop
her from going to get it. And because I’m her roommate, and because I was
looking for any excuse to go shopping, I tagged along with her to Academy
Records, which it turns out is pretty near Barneys. Not that my roommate was
interested in a cutting-edge clothing store.
Here’s the thing about living
in New York: There are a lot of people here. And if you go anywhere, you are
just surrounded by them, sitting on top of each other. I think that maybe
having to be in such close contact with so many different kinds of people makes
a person more tolerant.
And the subways are where you
really get to meet people in all their grumpy glory. The trip downtown to the
record store was no big deal, but on the way back, there was a homeless guy in
our car. You’d think everyone else would shy away from him, but that’s the
great thing about New York: You just accept that, whatever his problems, a
homeless man has as much right to a subway seat as anyone else. And so everyone
in the car was pretty chill.
And then he started talking.
To me. “You’re a dancer,” he said. He was six feet away, but Maddy and I could
both smell the alcohol on his breath.
“Um, yeah,” I said, just as
Maddy said, “Was it the leotard that gave it away?”
But he wasn’t really listening.
He waved his fingers toward my head and said, “You have an aura of . . . darkness around you. Darkness!”
“You have an aura of crazy around
you,” Maddy said. “Did I say aura? I meant odor.” Just then the
doors opened at 50th Street, and she pulled me out of the train and
steered me up to the street, saying, “Don’t let that bother you! I’ve ridden
the train like, three dozen times, and that was the only time I’ve been
accosted by some pervy weirdo. Anyway, we can walk from here.”
I acted like I didn’t care,
but I did. All I could think about were those missing girls and the voices that
I sometimes hear when I dance.
One thing was clear, though:
I’m not going to ride the subway anymore.

Maddy has turned out to be not a bad girl at all. In fact, she may be my best
