On My Wishlist (#27)

On My Wishlist is an awesome weekly meme hosted by Book Chick City that runs every Saturday. It's a place where you can put up all the books you're desperate to read, but haven't actually bought them yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. And, even better, everyone can join in with too, because there's a Mr Linky so you can put your post up. All you have to do is click on the link below:

Three awesome looking books on my wishlist today, and they are...

The Horse Road
By: Troon Harrison
Published: 12th April 2012
Published By: Bloomsbury
Found: On RedHouse
Synopsis From Amazon:
Kallisto loves her horses. She is an excellent horsewoman, as she has been taught all her equestrian skills by her nomad mother. One day she is returning from racing her horses when she sees from a mountain pass that the Chinese army is approaching her city - clearly planning to steal their horses! She races back home to find a deserted city and her favourite horse, Swan, taken by the Chinese, along with all the other horses. Kallisto is determined to get the horses back for her city, including her beloved Swan. She bravely approaches the Chinese general and challenges his best horseman to a duel of horsemanship and skill - if she wins, she will get Swan back. Kallisto loses (she is only 13!) but the general is so impressed by her audacity and bravery that he gives her Swan anyway, on condition that she sends him a foal every year. Set in Ferghana, Central Asia, in 102 BC, this is a thrilling tale that weaves in real events. The Chinese did invade and besiege towns to acquire the famed and beautiful Akhal-Teke horses - which led eventually to horses being traded for silk and the Silk Route being formed. A fascinating taste of another culture and another time, couched in a richly descriptive and very pacy narrative.
The ten-year-old-girl in me just adores horsey books, so how can I resist this?  Plus: the cover is so cute! ;)

The Killables (The Killables, #1)The Killables
Series: The Killables, Book One
By: Gemma Malley
Published: 29th March 2012
Published By: Hodder & Stoughton
Found: On RedHouse
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Everyone accepted that people were different physically. But inside? Inside, they were different too. You just had to know how to tell, what to look for.
Evil has been eradicated. The City has been established. And citizens may only enter after having the 'evil' part of their brain removed. They are labelled on the System according to how 'good' they are. If they show signs of the evil emerging, they are labelled a K . . . But no one knows quite what that means. Only that they disappear, never to be seen again . . .
I loved Gemma's The Declaration series so I can't wait to read this one as well!! :D

All These Things I've Done (Birthright, #1)All These Things I've Done
Series: Birthright, Book One
By: Gabrielle Zevin
Published: 29th March 2012
Published By: Macmillan
Found: On RedHouse
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Sixteen year-old Anya becomes the head of a mafia family after her parents are both murdered by rival gangs. Although Anya is embrolied in the criminal world, she is determined to keep her brother and sister out of the mafia family, but her father's relatives aren't so keen to let them go. When Anya's violent ex-boyfriend is poisoned with contaminated chocolate – chocolate that is produced illegally by Anya's mafia family – she is arrested for attempted murder and sent to the notorious jail on Manhattan Island.
Eventually she is freed by the new D.A. in town, who believs she has been framed. But this D.A. is the father of Win, a boy at school to whom Anya feels irresistibly drawn, and her freedom comes with conditions. Win's father wants to be mayor, and he can't risk having his ambition jeopardised by rumours spreading that his son is seeing a member of a notorious crime family. Anya knows she risks the safety of her family by seeing Win again, but the feeling between them may be too strong to resist...
Ok, I'm on a dystopia kick by the looks of things!  But I love the sound of this one too!  Except for the not-allowed-chocolate thing.  That really is terrible! ;)

Well, that's me.  I may just order these later...  I really should stop going on RedHouse... ;)

What's on your wishlist today? :)
