In My Mailbox (#4)

In My Mailbox was created by Kristi at The Story Siren.  It's a perfect way to see who's reading and review what.  Awesome!

So.  My plan of not buying anymore books kind of didn't work...  These books were really cheap though, and they look really, really good.  Plus, the eBooks were free.  Can't go wrong there.

So, this is what's In My Mailbox this week:

Bought:

Uglies (Uglies, Book One) by Scott Westerfeld (Goodreads | Amazon | Waterstones)
Synopsis From Waterstones:
Tally lives in a world where your sixteenth birthday brings aesthetic perfection: an operation which erases all your flaws, transforming you from an 'Ugly' into a 'Pretty'. She is on the eve of this important event, and cannot wait for her life to change. As well as guaranteeing supermodel looks, life as a Pretty seems to revolve around having a good time. But then she meets Shay, who is also fifteen - but with a very different outlook on life. Shay isn't sure she wants to be Pretty and plans to escape to a community in the forest - the Rusty Ruins - where Uglies go to escape ' turning'. Tally won't be persuaded to join her, as this would involve sacrificing everything she's ever wanted for a lot of uncertainty. When she is taken in for questioning on her birthday, however, Tally gets sent to the Ruins anyway - against her will. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she could ever imagine: find her friend Shay and turn her in, or never turn Pretty at all. What she discovers in the Ruins reveals that there is nothing 'pretty' about the transformations...And the choice Tally makes will change her world forever.
Pretties (Uglies, Book Two) by Scott Westerfeld (Goodreads | Amazon)
Specials (Uglies, Book Three) by Scott Westerfeld (Goodreads | Amazon)
I've not put synopsises on for these two so the series isn't ruined - both for readers who haven't read it and for me.  But you can see them on the 'Goodreads' link above.
The Replacement (The Replacement, Book One) by Brenna Yovanoff (Goodreads | Amazon)
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, Mackie comes from a world of tunnels and black, murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattoed princess. He is a replacement - left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago when it was stolen away by the fey. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood and consecrated ground, Mackie is slowly dying in the human world. Mackie would give anything just to be normal, to live quietly amongst humans, practice his bass guitar and spend time with his crush, Tate. But when Tate's baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably into the underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem, where he must face down the dark creatures and find his rightful place - in our world, or theirs.
Chains (Seeds of America, Book One) by Laurie Halse Anderson (Goodreads | Amazon)
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Set in 1776, against the backdrop of the American struggle for independence, this powerful novel is also an incredible adventure about one girl’s struggle for freedom in a society in which she is considered someone else’s property.
Isabel and her sister, Ruth, are slaves. Sold from one owner to the next, they arrive in New York as the Americans are fighting for their independence, and the English are struggling to maintain control. Soon Isabel is struggling too. Struggling to keep herself and her sister safe in a world in which they have no control.
With a rare and compelling voice, this haunting novel tells not only the story of a remarkable girl and her incredible strength, but also of a time and place in which slavery was the order of the day and lives were valued like weights of meat or bundles of vegetables.
Forge (Seeds of America, Book Two) by Laurie Halse Anderson (Goodreads | Amazon)
This is the sequel to Chains and I don't want to spoil anything, again.  So you can get a synopsis on the 'Goodreads' link again.
Whisper My Name by Jane Eagland (Goodreads | Amazon)
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Since she was twelve, Meriel Garland has lived with her grandfather in London, exiled from her beloved India following the death of her mother. Now sixteen, Meriel chafes against the strict regime of tests and study that her grandfather imposes on her. Escaping, she discovers a world outside her narrow existence - one that promises admiration for her acting skills, social success and the excitement of seances. But what should have been a game turns serious as the young medium Sophie Casson passes on a message from Meriel's dead mother - and Meriel begins to suspect she might not be alone in the world after all. In searching for the truth about her past, Meriel uncovers a sinister scheme - and soon it's hard to know who she can really trust.

She Walks in Beauty by Siri Mitchell (Goodreads | Amazon)
Synopsis From Goodreads:
For a young society woman seeking a favorable marriage in the late 1890s, so much depends on her social season debut. Clara Carter has been given one goal: secure the affections of the city's most eligible bachelor. Debuting means plenty of work--there are corsets to be fitted, dances to master, manners to perfect. Her training soon pays off, however, as celebrity's spotlight turns Clara into a society-page darling. Yet Clara wonders if this is the life she really wants, especially when she learns her best friend has also set her sights on Franklin De Vries. When a man appears who seems to love her simply for who she is, and gossip backlash turns ugly, Clara realizes it's not just her heart at stake--the future of her family depends on how she plays the game.

Well, oops, again.  But, as I said, I got the two series in sets for less than half the normal price (awesome!) and the Kindle books... well, they were free.  What more do you say?

Probably that I need to control myself a little, but anyway, what did you guys get this week?

You will definitely enjoy the Uglies trilogy. it's a little weird in the beginning but i must tell you don't give up it only gets better. it is dystopian and futuristic so they use a lot of weird words but definitely worth the read! i hope you enjoys these books like i did. Looking forward to reading your review!
